Sarah Palin, John McCain’s new running mate, the Harriet Miers of the Vice Presidency?

Wow, what the hell was that. John McCain has finally decided on his running mate and he picks Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska for only 18 months and former Mayor of a town of about 9,000 people whose role was mostly ceremonious. Anyone else remember Harriet Miers, Bush’s planned Supreme Court justice to replace Sandra Day O’Connor. Eventually the media caught on to her so called “credentials” and eventually she asked to be withdrawn amidst criticism and the likelihood of an arising controversy upon her selection. Guess what, it’s happening again with John McSame.

What the fuck John McCain. If there is any way that you can prove that you can’t make quick, rational decisions on policy issues, it’s well reflected in the choice of your vice president. Considering McCain’s record on health isn’t so great and he’s god damn 72 years old, Sarah Palin has a good shot at becoming president if something happens to McCain. Now ask me, how does a woman governing one of the smallest states in the nation have the necessary experience and knowledge to run a country of over 300 million people? Well not shit, she’s not qualified on the most basic level. Remember how the Republicans have been attacking Barack Obama for his alleged lack of foreign policy experience? Yeah I can totally see all the international issues that arise with governing Alaska. WHAT THE FUCK

Not to mention the pandering to the, ahem, so called 18 million Clinton voters, especially women, that will just as easily switch over to McCain because of a bitter election and frustration with Barack Obama. Really? Are women that support Clinton really going to bend over backwards to turn back Roe V. Wade? I doubt it. Yes there are some crazy people out there that are willing to vote completely against their ideology to spite Obama and Democrats who don’t recognize their anger. Fuck them. I realize it was an emotional moment to have Hillary reach so far into the presidential primaries for millions of women, almost winning the primaries and being a step away from the presidency. But it was also an emotional moment for blacks everywhere, knowing that our country has progressed so much that in 100 years and that despite what many had thought, a black man could rise to the highest office in the nation. Hillary and Barack are personified symbols of what is possible in our country when an individual has both the drive and the opportunity to succeed. This election is a testament to that fact.

John McCain’s attempts to recover discouraged Hillary supporters will likely hurt him, perhaps more than it will help him. Considering that many Democrats have feared that Barack Obama would lose the election because of racism, the same can be said of Hillary losing because of sexism. What about Sarah Palin? Think of ignorance that says all black men are violent, all women are emotional or all gays are hellbound. Think of those email forwards labeling Barack Obama as a muslim and using non-Christian images and symbols to scare would-be voters. McCain has already illustrated his lack of care for effective governance. Picking Sarah Palin shows that he doesn’t care about creating an effective government. His choice is unexperienced and incapable of making viable policy choices. God forbid McCain wins the election and then dies while in office. Great now we have a President who only 10 years earlier was Mayor of a town of 9,000 people. Seriously, that’s fucked.

New McCain ad says Obama isn’t there for the troops

Not surprisingly the McCain campaign is trying to paint Obama as a career politician who ignores the needs of our troops. Unfortunately they forget to mention that John McCain voted against a new GI bill supported by Democrats including Obama and Republicans. The new bill would provide a greater range of benefits to troops much like those received by John McCain when he served in Vietnam. The hypocrisy is that McCain thinks the bill was too generous for troops while having received relatively generous benefits during his service.

Obama only voted against the troop funding to protest against the war and every other Congressmen who essentially rubber stamped the bill. Hillary also opposed it and I think it was a bold move considering how unnecessary this war has become. If all policymakers blindly go along with the President then God (or Allah) help us all!

McCain unfit for presidency

From Politico

McCain has made more than a few gaffes on the campaign trail. As Politico illustrates, John McCain hasĀ  referred to foreign countries that don’t exist such as Czechoslovakia, mistaken leaders for the wrong nation, or confused one country for another. There’s little doubt that the campaign trail can be extremely hectic and stressful for candidates, especially for a 71 year old man. Yet McCain has repeatedly made mistakes that no President with strong foreign policy experience would make. How can you forget the speech where McCain said we need to “be able to deliver bottled hot water to dehydrated babies.” What… the… FUCK? To make matters worse he didn’t correct himself and I can only imagine what was going on in the minds of the audience.

You almost have to feel bad for the Republicans. They have to vote for a nominee that is going to be 72 years old and is unfit for the Presidency. Remember when John McCains campaign made his health history available to the press in a closed environment for a few hours? There were literally thousands of documents pertaining to his health while Obama’s entire history fits on a single sheet of paper. Some may say us McCain critics are insensitive, but the man is running for the highest office of the land and should be scrutinized appropriately (and this goes for Barack Obama as well).

McCain’s campaign responded to his errors and inconsistencies:

“Being human and tripping over your tongue occasionally doesn’t mean a thing,” a top McCain official said.

Sorry man, you’re full of shit. It DOES mean something. Seriously let me repeat this point because I think it’s really important. McCain is 71 years old. According to the CDC the average life expectancy is 77.8 years. That means that McCain would likely only live through a first term of office. It’s no secret that after a certain age a person’s mental capacity can deteriorate. If you ask me there should be an age limit to becoming President. There are so many other reasons to not vote for John McCain including his policy stances, inconsistencies/flip flops, and acceptance of Bush’s failed policies that have led to many of the crises we are facing in America today.
